Adhesive and Engine Weights

The adhesive weight is that part of the weight of the locomotive that rests on the driving wheels. As steam power turns these wheels, friction with the rails creates traction.

The engine weight (in working order) includes all the weight of the engine and the water carried in the boiler, but excludes the weight of the tender.
